Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the
Skokie Public Library held in the Conference Room of the Library May 13,
1964, at 7:30 p.·mo

Mrs.; Daniel Petty, Louis Weingart, Rabbi Karl Weiner, and Miss Mary
Radmacher," Librarian.; Also present: Mrs. M. Sarver for the purpose of
recording the

Preceding the regular business the president introduced Mr.· B. Harry
Dadigian,· president of the Masonic Lodge which owns a piece of property at
the Gross P!oint Road and Kenton Avenue location.
His attendance at the
meeting was to offer this parcel for- purchase by the Library Board at a price
of $79a 000.
The appraised value as reported to the Library Board is $77 ;·zoo.
Mr.; Dadigian is empowered to negotiate and indicated that an agree:r:nent in
price could be reached.
Mr. Armond King is the exclusive agent on this
property which is free and clear.· Mr .. Dadigian retired from the meeting.·

Motion by Mr. Conroy V. Erickson,
Motion:
That the Library Board authorize Mr.; Scott McDowell
to survey the resources and commitments of the Library
and negotiate with the owners of the Masonic property
and work out a purchase proposal to submit to the Board
at the meeting May 27, 1964.'
Mrs. Daniel Petty seconded the motion and the voting was as follows:
Affirmative: Mrs. W. Co Griffin, Mrs~ Daniel Petty, Mr. Erickson, Rabbi
Karl Weiner; negative: Mr. Louis Weingart.·
Motion by Mr. Erickson,
Motion:
That the Board authorize Mr. Green to appoint a
committee to act as liaison with School District 68
and as a Planning Committee for preparation of a
referendum proposal and develop a comprehensive
�plan for the acquisition of whatever property
is needed in the site under discussion and submit
a report to the Board not later than the July meeting
or a special meeting that may be called earlier at
the discretion of the president or the Board members~

To direct the librarian to contact Hammond and
Roes ch, architectural firm, and ask them to make a
study of'-the Gross Point Road and Kenton Avenue site
and delineate what portion of that land should be
acquired to accommodate a suitable branch library.·
The cost of this preliminary study not to exceed
twenty-five hundred dollars--{$2500) without further
authorization by the Board~:

The minutes of the meetings held April 22 and May 7 were reada.
Two corrections were requested in the minutes of May 7 after which they were

That the financial reports for the General Fund,
Reserve Fund for the Purchase of Sites and Buildings
and the Construction Fund be accepted.
All votes were affirmative.

Lecture Room by local groups or clubs~·· The president requested Miss Radmacher
to formulate a policy in draft form for presentatio n at the next Board
