Motion: That the financial reports for the General Operating
Budget and Res~rve Fund for the Purchase of Sites
and Buildings be accepted as submitted .. ·
All votes were affirmative.
Motion made by Mro Erickson .seconded by Mrs. Petty.
Motion: That the list of bills in the amount of six thousand
five hundred seven-eight dollars and seventy-four
cents ($6, 578. 74) as submitted be approved for
payment.,·
All members voted affirmatively ..
The Circulation Report for the month of August was approved and ordered
to be placed on file ..
The Librarian reported to the Board receipt of a gift of $15. 00 from the
B 1Nai B 1 rith Women - District 6.
The Librarian reported on the signing of Senate Bill 393 and House Bill
563 August 17 providing for a program of state grants to aid in the establishment
and development of a network of public library systems$ including an appropriation
of $4$ 743, 822.,
A Photocopy of Ho B. 563 Pas signed into law was distributed
to each member.

and the Librarian mentioned the necessity for finding a qualified librarian to head

Fuel Oil Bid submitted August 30, 1965 by Apex Motor Fuel Company which
was accepted by the Village Trustees was discussed and the following motion was
made by Mr., Erickson seconded by Rabbi Weinero
Motion:
That the Skokie Public Library, in agreement with the
Village Board, accept the low bid.·:submitted by the
Apex Motor Fuel Company and award the contract for
fuel oil for 1965 - 1966 to them~
All votes were affirmativeo
The Librarian explained that additional shelving was needed for the closed
reference area and for Young Pe6ple 1 s and Childrenls Departmento
Due to lack of
space it is necessary to add shelving against the glass partition separating the
Children 1 s Department from Technical Processes Department and in a comparable
position in the Adult Services Department closed reference areao: Motion by Rabbi

That the Skokie Public Library purchase the following
shelving, to be placed as indicated:
1 single faced range 5 sections long, 6 1 10 11 high 3 10 11 shelves,
Wot B. Ames shelving, laminated tea:k wood and panels for
closed reference area~ located adjacent to glass wall dividing
Adult Services from Technical Processes - installed $688 .. 00.

The Librarian announced there will be a special program with Roy Newquist
as the speaker in the Library Lecture Room October 7, 1965 at &:30 po mo,
sponsored by the Libraryo
The Board recommended that the program be advertised
by distribution of literature or posters ..

some Contempor ary Great Books Group members have inquired about and are
helping with the selection of filmso
Mro Allan Swartz has offered to provide
the projectoro' The consensus was that while this would be of educational value
it could also result in good publicity for the libraryo
Mro Green asked about the chances of the Skokie Public Library to
receive Federal funds for the building program.
Miss Radmacher stated her
belief that the Library had a moral obligation to the local taxpayers to make
application for such funds when there is an opportunity of getting as much as
twenty-five per cent of the bond
issue~
She reported on her discussion with Scott
McDowell.11 Library attorney, Mr.• de Lafayette Reid, Deputy State Librarian, and
Mro Louis Kahn» Village Finance Director.,.
It was the consensus of the Board
that application should be made for Federal funds.,' The sale of bonds would be
decreased by the amount which would be forthcomin g in Federal funds ..
Rabbi Weiner reported that a Home Owners Association President had
asked for facts concerning the Library Bond Issue Referendum be presented to
his association ls Board on September 9 and recommend ed that our Board: be

The Librarian called the attention of the Board to the art exhibit in the
Lecture Room of paintings by Mr •. Eugene Montgomer y of Skokieo
President Green informed the Board he had consented to talk at the meeting
of the Illinois Library Association Annual Conference Friday night, October 293
1965 at the Sheraton-C hicago Hotel.,
